Poole Libraries is set to screen a series of free, live talks this month,(see other dates below), hosted by the British Library. Free places must be book by phoning 01202 262449, or emailing libraries@poole.gov.uk.
Wednesday 6 September will see traveller and Python Michael Palin in conversation with Joan Bakewell, discussing everything from the Flying Circus to flying around the world, and celebrating the Palin’s generous donation of his archive to the British Library.
On Monday 18 September, fashion designer, environmentalist, and business woman, Vivienne Westwood, will talk about her passion for, and the importance of, reading while sharing a selection of her favourite books.
Thursday 28 September will mark nearly 20 years since author Salman Rushdie was forced into hiding following the publication of ‘The Satanic Verses’. Melvyn Bragg and guests will come together to discuss and reflect about being pro-Rushdie campaigners and their ongoing fight to end the fatwa against the world-renowned author.
All screenings are part of the British Libraries ‘Living Knowledge Network’, a partnership between the British Library and 22 major libraries across the UK.
Funded by Arts Council England and the British Library, the Living Knowledge Network enables libraries to share knowledge, resources and activities, for the benefit of residents across the country.

Cllr Mohan Iyengar, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Culture and Community, said: “These free events are a wonderful opportunity for everyone to listen to a series of insightful discussions by some of the world’s most influential people and I would encourage residents to go along.”
The live screen events will all take place at Poole Central Library, located within the Dolphin Centre, and start at 7pm.
