Peter was first elected to the Council in May 2003. Immediately he led a select committee on smoking in public places, the evidence and outcome from which fed into the government's decision to ban smoking in public places. As portfolio holder for the environmental areas, he was instrumental in getting the fantastic outdoor gym in Poole Park and funding to update and create new play areas for children. He is a keen athlete and once helped a blind man to run a marathon.
Peter has served in most areas of Council services. He chairs all full Council meetings, serves on several committees, and represents the Council on numerous outside bodies. As cabinet portfolio holder he has been responsible for culture, leisure, community learning, health, social care, well-being, and housing. During 2014-2015 he was Mayor of Poole. Peter is married to Brenda. They have two daughters and four grandchildren.
