The Conservative Administration is very aware and supportive of the need for the Port of Poole to continue to make a strong contribution to the local economy as well as any development being in sympathy with the maritime heritage of the Town.
Poole Harbour Commissioners (PHC) recently put forward a proposal to build a large marina on the Hamworthy side of the Port. The proposal would have seriously compromised the views from Hamworthy Park and gained strong opposition from local residents and Conservative Councillors. As a result, a second proposal has been put forward by PHC which would create a 900 berth extension to the existing marina adjacent to Dolphin Quay. At this point, the proposal is very much at an embryonic stage. Both Robert Syms and your local Conservative Councillor, Carol Evans, will be encouraging PHC to continue to engage in detailed consultation with both local residents and community groups to ensure that further development of the Port continues to meet the aspirations of all local people and interests, the size and scale of the current proposal being unacceptable.
