Poole High Street has been shortlisted in the Champion category for the 2018 Great British High Street Award. The news came in a letter from Jake Berry MP, the minister responsible for local growth and high streets in the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government.

In response to requests from Poole residents, he has campaigned for several years to strengthen the powers of the police and local authorities in tackling the problem of unauthorised encampments by travellers and others, who often cause serious nuisance in Poole.
