PROMOTING LOCAL BUSINESSES

Poole is in the midst of an ambitious regeneration scheme involving large scale infrastructure projects centred around the harbour.

Wherever possible, the Conservative Administration has sought to promote local businesses as contractors to these projects.

In particular, during the Twin Sails Bridge project the Borough of Poole worked with the bridge contractor, Hochtief Construction Ltd, to engage with, and ensure that, local businesses were awarded contracts for work on the Bridge.

As a result, 17 sub-contracts were placed with local companies, with an estimated value of over £5million.

This project has served to showcase the skills of our local businesses with some now being considered for other major projects across the UK.

Not only has this project provided local employment in the short term, it will continue to benefit future generations.

The new bridge and approach roads are a key piece of infrastructure that will act as a catalyst for development on the single largest regeneration site in South West England.

It will unlock 26 hectares of brownfield land in the heart of Poole for the building of new homes, shops, businesses and community facilities.

We anticipate that the regeneration will provide up to 2,000 new homes and 5,000 jobs over the next 10 to 15 years.
